King Alfred and The Cakes
A long time ago in England there was a king called Alfred. Back then a king did not have an peaceful life, there was war every month. He was the only person who could bring his army into battle.
There were terrifying, and crude people called the Danes. The Danes were battling the English and won every battle they fought in.
Once in a great battle, the Danes destroyed and broke up the English army. Most had to run for their lives. The king quickly escaped by himself.
The king was exhausted and starving, but soon the king encountered a woodcutters hut. He asked the woodcutters wife to give him food. The woodcutters wife did not know that he was the king, and she said she would if he could watch three cakes that were in the oven.
The king was watching them for a bit, but soon he started to think about how to get his army back together. Soon the woodcutters wife came back and saw the cakes burnt up to nothing. She was very angry. Some say she even beat the king with a stick.
No one knows if the king got his supper that night, but the next morning he got his army back together and beat the Danes in a huge battle.
